Hello All,

This week will be the first article talking about simple acts/actions during one’s daily life … a day in the life of …

I was thinking about who to choose for this first article many weeks ago, and the first type of profession that came to mind was a restaurant worker (does not matter the type of restaurant worker); the main message will be around interacting in a customer service environment along with physical items (food).

If we examine the role of a restaurant manager throughout their day, we will see that they interact with people on their team as well as with their customers; we will use a concrete example of this restaurant manager dealing with a customer complaint with a food dish that they ordered.

The short story starts below…

We will first start with a customer ordering food (it is the first time at the restaurant for this customer), and this customer sees their favorite dish on the menu, so they order!

  • The customer is in a rush as to get back to their office, so they are already in a state of panic.

  • The restaurant is short staffed at the moment, so the manager is helping take orders.

  • The customer waives the manager down and talks in a very rude manner to the manager (in a very demanding way).

  • The food takes longer than normal to get prepared due to the short staff in the kitchen as well.

  • When the food comes out, the manager brings it to the table and sees that the customer is not satisfied due to the food being extremely late to the table.

The customer, immediately tastes the food but is appalled by it’s taste and screams, “This is the most disgusting dish I have ever tasted.” The kitchen staff this week forgot to double check the expiry dates for certain items, and one of these unchecked items ended up on the customer’s plate!

The manager is in a state of disbelief, and is silent; the customer leaves their contact information and demands that the owner get into contact with them.

The customer then storms out of the front door, slamming the door while also breaking the locking mechanism of the door.

The restaurant manager (mind you) this is the first time they have verbally reacted to what has happened, states to the customer “Leave! We never want to see you again!”.

This concludes the short story and in next week’s article we examine the restaurant managers reaction, from their point of view while also looking at it from the customer’s point of view; we will analyze it from two perspectives: which one is right? which one is wrong? are they both right? are they both wrong? What is the true nature of reality!?

You will be surprised by the true nature of reality! It is not what you think it is!

To Infinity & Beyond,

Friend
